Dr. Lauren Canfield has been named interim principal of Marrington Middle School of the Arts. Alison Thornley has been named principal of Berkeley Middle College High School.
Dr. Canfield has been an educator in BCSD since 2010. Most recently, she was an assistant principal at Goose Creek High for three years and while in this role also served as the director for Berkeley Center for the Arts at GCH. Prior to being a school administrator, she was an MTSS coach and led BCA's theatre program.
Her years in Berkeley County include teaching elementary music at Cross Elementary and Westview Elementary from 2010-2011 and teaching middle school chorus and theatre at Daniel Island School from 2011- 2018.
"I am excited about the opportunity to return to the middle school level and inspire students' academic growth through the visual and performing arts at MMSOA," Dr. Canfield said. "As a navy wife, I am also looking forward to serving the military community in a fresh and impactful way."
Dr. Canfield received her bachelor's degree in music from Ohio University, her master's degree in theatre and directing from Roosevelt University, and her PhD in curriculum and instruction from Gardner-Webb University.
