Mount Holly Elementary is excited to introduce Dr. Susan Gehlmann as the school’s new principal. Families are encouraged to come out to the school on Monday, July 27 for a special “Popsicles with the Principal” event with Dr. Gehlmann.
Dr. Gehlmann studied elementary education at Lander University. She received her Master’s Degree from Charleston Southern University is social science. She went on to receive her doctorate from Nova Southeastern University in educational leadership.
Dr. Gehlmann’s education career spans more than 50 years in South Carolina, 39 of which have been spent with Berkeley County School District. She has previously taught sixth grade math at Berkeley Middle; middle school math and English/language arts at Berkeley County Next Step Learning Center (then Berkeley Alternative); and math and social studies at the district’s Adult Education Program.
Dr. Gehlmann has served BCSD in a variety of leadership capacities throughout her distinguished career. She previously served as Assistant Principal at Berkeley High School and as the Adult Education Site Administrator. In 2000, she assumed her first principalship upon returning to Berkeley Middle School. She subsequently held several district-level leadership positions, including Director and Executive Director, where she oversaw key areas such as curriculum and instruction, special programs, staff development, elementary school services, and administrative services.
"I am excited for the opportunity to serve our students, teachers, parents and community members at Mount Holly Elementary," she said.
Mount Holly invites families to come out to the school between 5 and 6:30 p.m. on July 27 to meet Dr. Gehlmann. This is a very casual, drop-in style event.
