I am thrilled to be the Principal at Howe Hall AIMS. I had the opportunity to get to know the school when I shared time as the Assistant Principal at both AIMS and Westview Elementary School in 2010-2011 and I am grateful to be back at such a wonderful school.

In addition to my previous time at AIMS, I served as the Assistant Principal at Westview Elementary and Daniel Island School. I was a fourth-grade teacher for my first ten years in the Berkeley County School District. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the College of Charleston and my Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the Citadel. I grew up in Berkeley County and attended the schools in Hanahan from kindergarten through twelfth grade.

I have been married twenty-five years to my husband, Tom and we have three children. Our oldest is a senior nursing major at The Citadel evening program, our middle daughter is freshman at the University of North Carolina Charlotte, and our youngest is a sixth grader. I love what I do every day and that is watching children learn and grow. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to make your or your child’s year better. My email is mcalista@bcsdschools.net and my number is 843-820-3899 so please do not hesitate to reach out.

I grew up in East Tennessee and worked for 32 years in the Greene County School System. I spent 9 years as a middle school teacher and 23 years as a principal at various schools in the district. I moved to the Charleston area 4 years ago when my husband relocated for a job opportunity. I have worked with Berkeley County for the past 3 years in the Office of Federal Programs.  I have been married for 35 years and have 3 boys, 1 grandson, and a golden retriever. I live in the Daniel Island area.

I am so excited to be here!  I look forward to collaborating with the talented staff, supporting our amazing students, and helping the school community grow and succeed together. It’s an honor to take on this new role, and I can’t wait to see all the great things we will accomplish!
