Ezra Cowan

Dr. Ezra Cowan

Interim Principal

Lynsey Phillips has been selected to be the first principal of Midtown Middle, which opens in Nexton in the fall of 2026. As Phillips prepares to open Midtown Middle, Dr. Ezra Cowan will serve as interim principal at SFM.

Dr. Cowan graduated with a bachelor's degree from North Carolina A&T State University.

After graduating from A&T and a career in sales, Dr. Cowan earned a master of arts in teaching at The Citadel, a M.Ed. in school leadership and an education specialist degree for school superintendent. Dr. Cowan received a doctorate in education systems improvement science at Clemson University.

Most recently in Berkeley County School District, Dr. Cowan served as an assistant principal at Westview Middle. To ensure a smooth transition, Phillips will assist and mentor Dr. Cowan in his new role until January 2026.

steve childers

Mr. Steve Childers

Assistant Principal

This year is Mr. Childers' fourth year as an assistant principal at Sedgefield, and his 20th year in education. Prior to becoming an administrator, he spent 14 years teaching US History, Government and Economics at Hanahan High School.  While at Hanahan, Mr. Childers also coached boys and girls basketball, football, soccer and track.

He currently resides in Summerville with his wife Nikki, their three children, Karis (15), Kohen (12), Penny (1), and their two cats, Carl and Martha. As a proud graduate of Coastal Carolina University, Mr. Childers attends games as often as possible.  He is also a fan of the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Hornets, and the Boston Red Sox.

Jamie Cook

Mrs. Jamie Fox

Assistant Principal

Jamie Fox is currently serving Sedgefield Middle School as an Assistant Principal. She is coming from the Charleston County School District after serving as the ML Instructional Coach for all secondary schools for the last three years.

She has taught Spanish to students in grades 6-8 in Brooklyn, NY, as well as served as the ESOL Department Chair at Stratford High School for seven years. She holds a bachelor's degree in Adolescent Education with concentrations in French and Spanish from the State University of New York at Fredonia. She also holds two master’s degrees in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the State University of New York at Cortland and Secondary School Administration and Supervision from Charleston Southern University.
