Stratford defeated Wando 2-0 on Thursday night to complete the sweep of the Warriors to begin Region 7-AAAAA play. Three pitchers combined to throw a shutout for the Knights.
Stratford got on the board in the top of the third inning after Mason Warne singled to start the inning. Dom Longello singled down the left field line scoring Warne and giving the Knights a 1-0 lead. Longello would advance to third and then a Wando balk would bring him in to give the Knights a 2-0 lead; proving to be the final margin of victory.
Stryker Gehlken earned the win for the Knights. The pitcher surrendered two hits and zero runs over four and one-third innings. Longello collected the save. Brandon Cruz tossed one and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball for Stratford in relief, silencing a Wando attempt to rally in the bottom of the fifth.
Warne, Stratford's number eight hitter, led the team with two hits in two at-bats. Longello led the Knights with one run batted in. The shortstop went 1-for-3 on the day. Jarrett Wagner was 1-3 with a double.
Stratford will travel to Lucy Beckham for their next game on Monday, March 30th.
