Applications are open for Berkeley County Virtual Learning Academy

Berkeley County School District is opening applications for rising 11th and 12th grade students interested in participating in full-time virtual learning for the 2023-2024 school year. There are limited spots available.

The Berkeley County Virtual Learning Academy is a new and flexible learning opportunity available to 11th and 12th grade BCSD students. The district is using ESSR funds to add this component to its available programs.
Joining the full-time virtual learning platform is application-only. School recommendations will be requested for students who submit applications. All received applications will be evaluated against a rubric and a formula based on the high school the applicants are currently attending.
Applications are due by Friday, April 21, 2023.

Virtual learning is an option for highly motivated students with proficient computer and technology skills. Students who apply should be strong, independent learners with good organizational and time-management skills.
The students will participate in virtual courses five days a week with a mixture of synchronous (live) and asynchronous (independent) learning. Students can interact with classmates via virtual meetings and discussion boards.
Virtual Learning Academy students may still participate in their home school’s athletics and extra-curricular activities, as approved.
Eligible students may qualify to enroll in dual credit, Advanced Placement (AP) and advanced CTE courses with their home school. Courses are subject to availability.
Students are responsible for all transportation related to any non-virtual courses and on-site test administrations.
Students should possess the prerequisites necessary to participate in the courses offered by the virtual program. Course offerings are subject to change, but here is the current course list:

- U.S. History
- American Government
- Forensic Science
- Environmental Science
- Fundamentals of Computing

- IT Fundamentals
- Music Appreciation
- Personal Finance
- Spanish 1
- Spanish 2
- Additional electives as needed
