Audition dates for Berkeley County School District's Gifted and Talented Arts Program (STEP) have been confirmed as the referral and application process approaches.
Referral applications for STEP auditions will be available and accepted beginning August 18 with a return deadline of September 11.
Students must audition to qualify for STEP. Music, drama, and dance students audition before a jury composed of performing arts professionals. Visual Art students will complete two drawing assignments onsite. The jury seeks to identify students with outstanding potential in the arts, not necessarily those students who have had professional training.
The program is open to students in grades 4-12. Once identified, students may attend weekly after school classes at specific sites during the school year and a two week summer program. Sixth through eighth grade STEP students may also attend Marrington Middle School of the Arts.
