The 59th graduating class of Hanahan High School was recognized on Tuesday, June 5 in what was an emotional commencement ceremony.
It was an event during which the achievements of every student in attendance were recognized. It was an event in which the life of late classmate Emily Getman was honored. It was an event where one of the most memorable moments was when the class valedictorian turned to retiring Principal Ric Raycroft and thanked him for his leadership at the school, dedication to the community and contribution to the molding of every student in attendance.
The Hanahan Class of 2018 was comprised of 239 graduates with a total of $6.7 million in scholarships. Principal Raycroft confirmed the graduates of 2018 were the most successful, in that regard, in school history.
Speaking to those in attendance as the 2018 valedictorian was Shelbie Nikole Hughes. Honored as the 2018 salutatorian was Christopher Bryson Hatchell.
