The opening of Berkeley County School District's newest student-run financial institution was celebrated this week as the grand opening for the Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union on the campus of Philip Simmons High was held.
The new credit union makes the third Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union on BCSD campuses. Goose Creek High and Cane Bay High also have student-run credit unions supported by Heritage Trust.
“I haven’t factored a polynomial since I left high school, but I’ve used financial literacy nearly every day of my life,” said BCSD Superintendent Dr. Eddie Ingram. “That’s what drives my passion for this. I am proud of the partnership that has made this student-run credit union possible, and I hope the students involved in the educational opportunity provided serve as ambassadors for the program. I cannot thank Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union enough.”
The event included a ribbon-cutting and reception for students honored for their commitment and work in the credit union.
