BCA to host Fine Arts College Fair for all BCSD students

On October 3, Berkeley Center for the Arts on the campus of Goose Creek High will host a Fine Arts College Fair. It's an event during which organizers hope that students will learn more about arts offerings at colleges and universities and what career paths are available.
Berkeley Center for the Arts Director of Choral Activities Jordan Boyd said the event is something the team at BCA felt was important as often students who excel in the arts are encouraged to pursue other paths.
"When they visit the typical college fairs, they always get asked about backup plans," Boyd said. "This is a chance to see that they can pursue their passion, and they can get paid to do it. In many cases, students don't even know that artistic scholarships exist."
If current arts students don't want to pursue an arts major, they often also have no idea what their options are for classes and activities to feed their artistic sides.
"Our kids tell us that they go an ask questions about choir, and the representatives of the colleges and universities can't give them answers," Boyd said.
The October event is an attempt to get those questions answered. BCA is expecting hundreds of students to attend from all of Berkeley County School District's high schools. There will be at least a dozen colleges or universities at the event, some from as far away as Michigan, Cincinnati and Texas. Boyd said several of the colleges/universities plan to also bring performance ensembles.
"Our kids are excited. They are are excited to actually be able to get relevant information," he said.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. and end at around 9 p.m.
