Siqi Fang from Hanahan Middle School won first place at the 31st Annual SpellBound! Spelling Bee at Lightsey Chapel Thursday, March 9. She competed against 29 other spellers from surrounding school districts, including Charleston, Dorechester 2, Dorchester 4, and Colleton in over 10 rounds.
As the Spellbound! champion, Fang will go on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., on an all-expenses-paid trip supported by the Post and Courier!
She was supported at SpellBound! by her Hanahan Middle teachers: Meg Gillette, Edie Hale, Danielle Reed, Kelly Bearden, Angela Fletcher, Instructional Coach Kacey Holland, Assistant Principal Daniel Batkins, Principal Kelli Roberson.Representatives from the district were also there to support her as well: ELA Coordinator Dr. Chelsey Bradley, Secondary Executive Director Dr. Susan Gehlmann, and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Karen Whitley.
