PHOTOS: Students collect more than 9k canned goods for food drive

Published Tuesday, November 23, 2021

Students at Westview Elementary are sorted into four Houses. These Houses serve as their family at school, and also provide the opportunity for students to serve the community.

Students in the community service committees of Altruismo and Amistad decided they wanted to hold a canned food drive, while also creating a competition between houses. Students chose two charities- Charleston Uplift and Helping Hands of Goose Creek. They set the terms of the competition, created fliers, made donation boxes, and counted every donation.

In just 10 days, WVE students and families donated 9,004 canned goods. The entire drive was student-led.

Goods were picked up by Helping Hands on Friday, November 19 and delivered to Charleston Uplist on Thursday, November 18.
