Cane Bay High’s choral program recently hit some major high notes.
Chorus students recently placed at the Georgia Southern Invitational on Nov. 9, and a number of students have also been selected to participate in the Regional Honor Choirs next semester (see list below).
At the invitational, the school’s Vox Bellator chorus group placed third in the Treble choir division and the Cobra Chorale earned the Adjudicator’s award for outstanding performance.
William Bennett, director of choirs at Cane Bay High, said the two choirs sang their best to this point of the school year and did a great job representing their school and community.
“We are very proud of the work of our singers at the competition,” Bennett said.
As the school’s choral program was greatly affected by the ongoing pandemic, Bennett said his students have enjoyed having the opportunity to perform once again.
“That’s the biggest thing,” he said, adding his students competed against other schools with reputable choral programs. “We’re very, very proud of all the results we got that day – just a great day all around.”
In addition to placing in the invitational, Cane Bay Choirs also has nine students that were selected for the ACDA Southern Region Honor Choirs in Raleigh. These students participated in a very competitive audition process and were selected from a pool of students from the Southern Region (about a dozen states in the southeast).
“Regional and National Honor Choirs – those put you in a different category as far as a high school singer goes,” Bennet said.
They will participate in the Regional Honor Choirs in February 2022. Bennett said this is one of the highest honors that a high school singer can earn, and that this is the highest number of students from Cane Bay High to be ever be selected for the Regional Honor Choirs.
Regional Honor Choirs is biannual; the school previously got to perform in Mobil, Alabama in spring 2020.
