Math or Treat

Math exercises at Macedonia Middle Thursday are expected to be fang-tastic!
For the first time ever, the school has planned a Math or Treat, and the trailer created to get students excited provides a good “sine” of things to come.
With a strong implementation of the 4 Cs, students will be required to collaborate, communicate, create and think critically. Additionally, they will have the choice to work independently on a variety of difficulty levels.
Math or Treat (for those looking to replicate this fa-boo-lous lesson)
- Students in each grade level will rotate among three different rooms/spaces with a 5-minute transition.
- Students are provided math problems/puzzles/challenges.
- Each problem will be worth 1, 2, or 3 punches on prize punch cards.
- At the end of the day, students submit their cards to their teacher for prize redemption. Prizes will be delivered to the students the next day (Friday).
“The overall goal is to create an excitement in math and to show that math is fun through problem solving,” said Macedonia Middle Assistant Principal Amanda Bise. Students are asking great questions about the day and seem pretty excited about the activities and the prizes. At first, it was overwhelming for the math teachers to organize and get ready. Overall though, they seem excited to do activities with math outside of the normal classroom.”
