A Macedonia Middle fox inside a wreath, a Christmas tree lit up by the fire, a Goose Creek High crocodile “croc-in” around a Christmas tree, a Howe Hall AIMS chameleon sporting a Santa hat – just a taste of the artwork Berkeley County School District’s students helped create for Celebrate The Season.
The ninth annual Celebrate The Season, presented by Berkeley Electric Cooperative, is a charitable holiday event organized by Santee Cooper, Old Santee Canal Park and the Town of Moncks Corner. It is a month-long holiday celebration, and part of the celebration are the Holiday Boards, which residents can check out at the weekend Holiday Fairs.
Visitors are encouraged to check out the Holiday Boards on display; many of the boards were created by almost 30 Berkeley County School District schools. The boards depict different holiday-related scenes – like a snowman catching some sun rays and a tree lit up by a warm fireplace. A lot of them are school-based holiday scenes incorporating the schools’ mascots.

Vickie Hickman, coordinator of innovation for visual and performing arts for the district, called it a “school collaborative” that the kids work on in their art classes at school.
“It’s amazing,” she said.
The Holiday Fairs will be held every weekend, Friday through Sunday from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., at the Moncks Corner Regional Recreation Complex off of East Main Street. There will be free visits with Santa Claus, carnival rides, crafts by local artisans, marshmallow roastings, food and other activities.
Admission into the Holiday Fairs is free. Enter the fairs at 418 E. Main St.
