Superintendent Dr. Eddie Ingram commented on a variety of topics concerning Berkeley County Schools and its students, faculty, staff and the communities served by the system. These remarks included: 

  • Teachers of the Year- Dr. Ingram thanked the Teachers of the Year and shared his pride for each of the “heroes” recognized during the board meeting.
  • STEM Festival- Everyone had a wonderful time at the STEM Festival this past Saturday.  The event was held at the Fairgrounds in Ladson. Several of our schools and our students participated. The creativity and ingenuity of our youngsters is truly outstanding.
  • Miss Hanahan Pageant- On Saturday evening, Dr. Ingram and his wife attended the Miss Hanahan Pageant at Hanahan High.  Fifty young ladies vied for the crown.  Ms. Daniela Vera-Martinez won this year’s competition.  The auditorium was a sellout.
  • School visits- On Monday, Dr. Ingram visited classrooms at Philip Simmons High School and met with the school’s principal, Dr. Dixon. He said he’s pleased with Dr. Dixon’s leadership at Philip Simmons High. On Tuesday Morning, Dr. Ingram visited Cainhoy Elementary and observed several classrooms, briefly. He mentioned that Principal LaWanda Glears is working hard to establish a positive culture at the school.
  • Statewide tornado drill- Dr. Ingram reminded community members that Wednesday, March 13 is the date for the statewide tornado drill.
  • Out of the office- Dr. Ingram shared that he would be out of the office on Wednesday, March 13, due to a medical test.
  • Observations- Dr. Ingram shared that he would be observing teachers at Cross Elementary, Cross High, and the Berkeley Middle College on Thursday, March 14. He planned to observe teachers at St. Stephen Elementary, St. Stephen Middle, and Berkeley Middle on Friday, March 15.
  • Teacher Recruitment Fair- BCSD is hosting its annual Teacher Recruitment Fair at Cane Bay High School on Saturday.
  • Clue: on Stage- On Saturday evening, Dr. Ingram will be attending the high school version of “Clue: On Stage” at the Goose Creek Auditorium.  The production is presented by the students of the Berkeley Center of the Arts.
  • RiverDogs and literacy- BCSD has teamed up with the RiverDogs to encourage literacy among English Language Learners and incentivize the students who meet the program goals set forth by the Charleston RiverDogs and the District. The goal is to have each student in the EL Program achieve the goals for their grade level and allow them the opportunity to attend a RiverDogs game in celebration of their accomplishment. Dr. Ingram invited school board and cabinet members to the Kick-off Press Conference & Logo/Jersey Unveiling on Monday, March 18 at 10 a.m. at College Park Elementary School.
  • Teacher Forum Induction Ceremony- Dr. Ingram reminded board members of the invitation for the Teacher Forum Induction Ceremony to be held next Friday, March 22nd, at the Freedom Church in Moncks Corner. The ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m.
