Energy Bus wheels continue to spin positivity around CPE

Published Thursday, November 8, 2018

The Energy Bus initiative has been rolling through College Park Elementary since the first day of school this year, and as time passes, a culture of positive interactions, student/staff encouragement and creativity is being carved out in the hallways of the school that serve as paths from lesson to lesson.

Those at the school continue to challenge themselves in finding creative ways to spread cheer and positivity. The most recent example being the recently-imagined “Energy Bus Food Trucks.”

The idea was that carts decorated as trucks and/or buses would deliver snacks as a surprise to students and teachers. At the end of an early release day, students and food trucks “hit the road.”

“The students cheered and shouted our school chant, ‘You’re awesome, you’re the best, you rock!’” CPE librarian Patricia Candor said.

The goal was to surprise everyone, and students involved with the planning, decorating and distribution of snacks were sworn to secrecy.

Those behind the planning of the event are now discussing how they can go bigger and better the next time the Energy Bus Food Trucks hit the hallways and corridors of the school.

“Everyone, students and teachers, were so excited,” Candor said.

The Energy Bus for Schools Leadership Journey (EBSLJ) is a transformational, multiyear approach for schools to create and sustain a positive school culture and develop positive school leaders. Positive school climates are linked to increased high school graduation rates, turnarounds in low-performing schools, reduced school violence, and increased communication among students, families and faculty.
