Applause, laughter and even tears filled the auditorium and cafeteria at Berkeley High School Thursday as Berkeley County School District’s road warriors gathered for the annual summer in-service meeting.
The event is one which provides an opportunity for BCSD’s bus drivers to obtain new information related to the job of transporting our children. It’s also a time for transportation employees to mingle, mentally prepare for the upcoming year and receive recognition for their dedication to the children of Berkeley County.
During this year’s meeting, six drivers were recognized for their service – one from each office and the district driver of the year.
“There are many people that deserve to be recognized, but we whittle it down,” said BCSD Director of Transportation Wes Fleming. “These six people, while they are the cream of the crop, it doesn’t mean that there aren’t a whole lot more right there with them.”
The drivers recognized go above and beyond getting children to school.
“Some of these people do a lot of things behind the scenes that you may or may not realize,” Fleming said.
