The chart above shows how BCSD spent money for the 2017-2018 school year.
During the annual Report to the Community presentation hosted by the Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, BCSD Superintendent Dr. Eddie Ingram discussed financial accountability as the district moves forward.
During the 2017-18 school year, BCSD took several actions to improve district finance.
Highlights from the year include but are not limited to the following:
Realigned Finance Department with a new structure including new Chief Financial Officer and 3 Directors to assist in streamlining of processes to support growth and student success.
Began implementation of new accounting software program to contribute to the development of a long-range budget for making financial decisions.
Provided transparent financial information to support the educational process.
Aligned the general fund budget to the district’s strategic plan.
Provided a 5-year capital budget to continue to provide a safe environment for our students.
Recovered past budget reductions to increase future capacity.
Accomplished the above with NO INCREASE in the 2018-19 millage rate.
"Change is not something that SHOULD HAPPEN. Change WILL HAPPEN, and you will see it in Berkeley County School District," Dr. Ingram wrote in a note found in the report.
