Berkeley County School District’s (BCSD) Nicholas Snyder, a 9th - 10th grade English teacher at Cane Bay High, will travel to Columbia on Wednesday to learn if he will be named the new South Carolina (SC) Teacher of the Year. As one of five finalists, Snyder will attend the SC Teacher of the Year Gala to be recognized and may very well leave in a brand new BMW as the 2019 SC Teacher of the Year.
“All of us in Berkeley County are anxiously awaiting this announcement,” said BCSD Superintendent Eddie Ingram. “We will join Nick in Columbia on Wednesday and look forward to bringing him back home to the district as the new SC Teacher of the Year.”
The 2019 SC Teacher of the Year will receive a total of $25,000 and a brand new BMW to use while serving for one year as a roving ambassador providing mentoring, attending speaking engagements, working with teacher cadets and teaching fellows, leading the State Teacher Forum, and serving as the state spokesperson for over 48,000 educators.
The Teacher of the Year program celebrates excellence and strengthens the teaching force by honoring and recognizing exceptional teachers on the district, state, and national level. The Teacher of the Year Awards not only assist in retention efforts but serve as a powerful recruitment tool to the educator profession.
