Goose Creek DECA chapter members headed to national competition

Hot sauce is measured in Scoville units. To date, the hottest sauce is that made of the Dorset Naga pepper, which measures at 923,000 Scoville units.
If measured on the same scale, the Goose Creek DECA students would resemble the Dorset Naga pepper. Simply put -- their leadership skills are on fire as they lead a pack of career-focused teens DECA was created to prepare for the future.
Students from Goose Creek High School competed in 10 events at the state DECA compeition this past weekend. They placed in the top 10 in all events. Three of those students claimed first-place prizes, which include $1,500 academic scholarships. Six qualified to compete in the national competition scheduled for April in Atlanta.
"We are extremely proud of each DECA students that competed this past weekend in the DECA state compeition," said Goose Creek Principal Shameka Washington.

DECA was founded in 1946 and in its 70-year history boasts an impact on the lives of more than 10 million students, educators, school administrators and business partners. The Goose Creek High School DECA chapter is one of 3,500 in the country.
