BMS unified music class delivers emotional performance

Published Thursday, February 22, 2018

It was a feel-good moment that gave teachers, administrators and parents in attendance chills. It was a performance that brought some to tears as the Berkeley Middle School unified music class took the stage as if it were any other day.

The unified music class is made of students with and without disabilities. Together they explore music theory, put music to motion and learn about each other.

"To see, as a community, everyone taking and embracing that class and their performance was  big deal," BMS assistant principal Rachel Spitulski said.

The class practiced for several weeks to be able to perform the song Clay by Grace VanderWaal in American Sign Language at the school’s January talent show.

They’ll next perform at the "End the R Word" Statehouse Rally on March 28 at 11 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.
