The Goose Creek High School chamber choir is made of the best voices on the school’s campus. Members of the school’s Varsity Voices auditioned to be on the newly-formed group made of about 30 students, grades 9-12.
Those highly-skilled singers met to rehearse for the first time on January 11 and after only five of those meetings, the chamber choir took first place at the Lander University Choral Festival.
The chamber choir also claimed awards at the February 2 event for outstanding soprano and outstanding alto sections.
“Our students competed against choirs from across the state and were met with great acclaim from a panel of qualified adjudicators,” said Berkeley Center for the Arts director of choral activities Jordan Boyd.
Mr. Boyd said the accomplishment of the students is a reflection of the fast-growing choral program of Berkeley Center for the Arts at Goose Creek High School.
“They are highly-skilled singers and musicians that demonstrate exceptional vocal technique, the highest standard of musicianship and professional level work ethic,” he said.
The chamber choir will compete in March at the South Carolina High School Choral Performance Assessment. That competition will be followed by the Palmetto State Choral Championships in April.
If you are eager to see the chamber choir perform, the group is holding a concert with the Taylor Festival Choir on February 20 at 7:30 p.m. on the Harry D. Calvert Auditorium at Goose Creek High School.
