Philip Simmons Elementary School has a motto - "make it better." The work of Dr. Melissa Negreiros in line with that motto is largely why she was recognized by ABC News 4, Lowcountry STEM Collaborative and Panera Bread as the STEM Educator of the Month for January.

The recognition comes as Dr. Negreiros uses science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to inspire creativity in students, have a positive impact on the school and extend her reach beyond the classroom.

"Anything we do, we try as educators and as a school and as a community, we try to make it better," Dr. Negreiros said in the ABC News 4 interview.
