Preston

Pictured above is Stratford High School’s Preston Soriano with BCSD Superintendent Dr. Eddie Ingram and Board Chair Sally Wofford. Preston was the Class 5A state wrestling champ for the 126-pound weight class. As a junior on the team, Preston is the 6th-winningest wrestler in Stratford’s history with a 143-15 record. He finished the season this year with a 50-2 record.

Israel

Goose Creek High School’s Israel Shultz, shown above in the center with Dr. Ingram and Mrs. Wofford, was the Class 5A state wrestling champion for the 120-pound weight class. Israel is the first Gator to win a state wrestling title since 2016. As a senior he ends his high school career with more than 100 wins. His record this season was 33-5.

 Lady Gators

The Goose Creek Lady Gators of 2019 will forever be remembered as the team that gave its all until the buzzer. The team came from behind to defeat Spring Valley 52-51 in the state title game this year. In about the final minute and a half of the game, the Lady Gators scored nine unanswered points to claim the victory. Among those crucial buckets were game-winning free throws by guard Mia Davis with only seconds left on the game clock.

 Berkeley Stags

The Stags of Berkeley High won the 2019 Lowerstate Championship and traveled to Columbia where they fell to Dorman High in the state title game. While the larger trophy didn’t come back to Moncks Corner, the Stags returned with the best season record in school history (26-2).
