Superintendent Dr. Eddie Ingram commented on a variety of topics concerning Berkeley County Schools and its students, faculty, staff and the communities served by the system. These remarks included:

  • Teacher of the Year finalists- Berkeley County School District (BCSD) announced its three Honor Roll Teacher of the Year finalists at its annual Teacher Forum Induction on Friday. The finalists are Sangaree Intermediate’s Thomas Mignone, Daniel Island School’s Amy Hardison and Nexton Elementary’s Kimberly Walker. VIEW PHOTOS
  • Charleston Electrical Contractors Association Competition- Last Saturday, Dr. Ingram visited the Charleston Electrical Contractors Association Competition at Trident Technical College. One of our former students from Goose Creek earned over $50,000 dollars last year as an electrician for a local company. He also met Samuel and Lamar. These two adults had registered with the association, became electricians and are now attending The Citadel to become electrical engineers. Their company is paying their tuition. Sam reported his tuition bill to be $17,000 for evening classes, but he does not pay the bill. He does well in his classes because of his practical experience, and he receives more job offers than the traditional student studying engineering does.
  • State FBLA Competition- This past weekend, many of our students performed very well in the State FBLA Competition in North Charleston. Berkeley High’s Jaylan DuBose took home 1st place in the Future Business Leader’s segment of the competition, and Denzel Martin won 1st place in the Computer Game & Simulation Programming component of the competition.
  • Teacher Forum- Yesterday afternoon, Dr. Kelly Wulf, Interim Chief Academic Officer, and Dr. Ingram met with Teacher Forum Leaders Nick Snyder and Emily Reichbach regarding proposed changes for Teacher Forum next year
  • Berkeley County Council- Dr. Ingram shared that he attended the Berkeley County Council meeting.
  • Observations- This week, Dr. Ingram has observed classrooms at Howe Hall AIMS and Nexton Elementary Schools. He is also scheduled to observe teachers at Goose Creek Elementary and Boulder Bluff Elementary.
  • Moncks Corner Rotary- On Thursday, Dr. Ingram will be speaking at the Moncks Corner Rotary Luncheon at Gilligan’s.
  • Out-of-the-Office- On Friday, Dr. Ingram will be out of the office with a dental procedure.
  • National Athletic Training Month- This month is National Athletic Training Month. BCSD currently has 15 certified athletic trainers working in our schools. We appreciate all that our athletic trainers do to educate our students and help to keep them healthy and safe.
  • Board protocols and commitments- Dr. Ingram provided the Board with a packet of four sheets that the board spent the last year or so developing. He is having poster size versions of this work printed so that the Board will have them to refer to in future meetings. He will also have smaller versions at each of their seats. Protocols and commitments change as conditions change, so these are malleable.
  • Teacher Forum Representatives- Dr. Ingram recognized the following members of Teacher Forum present for the meeting: Cassandra Cowdrey – Berkeley Intermediate, Megan Hackworth – Berkeley Elementary, Courtenay Howell - Cross Elementary, and Deborah Joyce Hanclosky – Hanahan High.
