Those at Bowen's Corner Elementary had something special planned for students on the final day of school before fall break.
In an effort to promote reading, the school held a Real Men Read Day, during which male role models in the community, from police officers to local athletes, were invited to come an read to groups of children.
Each classroom had two guest readers who each read 1-2 books.
"When the students see high school and college football players come into their classrooms and talk about the importance of reading and how it has affected them, it really makes the students think, 'wow, reading is really cool!'" said school secretary Kristina Brooks.
The Real Men Read Day was planned by the school's media specialist, Lanora Rogers. Administrators at the school say they plan to make it an annual event.
