The Board held a public hearing on the 2018-2019 budget at 5:00 p.m. before their regular meeting.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
Superintendent Dr. Eddie Ingram commented on a variety of topics concerning Berkeley County Schools District and its students, faculty, staff and the communities served by the system. These remarks included:

  • Grants awarded- Ingram shared that BCSD received three separate grants from the Tides Foundation.
    • $57,604 for implementing the 4 C’s
      • critical thinking
      • communication
      • collaboration
      • creativity
    • $21,450 for rolling study halls
    • $6,783 for Google activities at Whitesville Elementary
  • Groundbreaking Ceremony- On Wednesday, Dr. Ingram will attend Moncks Corner’s Fire Station 2 at Foxbank groundbreaking ceremony.
  • Out of Office- Ingram reminded the Board that he would be flying to Boston tomorrow, at his own expense, to visit some summer programs sponsored by Boston University. He will return on July 3rd.
  • Update on Foxbank Elementary School- Paving has started around Foxbank Elementary School and crews are working around the clock to complete the project. We will be ready to open for students in August.
  • Reduced Speed Limit Zone- BCSD leaders are reapplying for a reduced speed limit zone on Foster Creek Road.
  • ISTE Conference- This week several of our school leaders are at the ISTE conference in Chicago, including Ms. Alicia Pressley. Congratulations to Ms. Pressley!
  • BCSD and Berkeley County Government Hiring Fair- Berkeley County School District and Berkeley County Government partnered for a hiring fair that was held Thursday, and several people were hired by local companies on the spot. We had over 16 employees represented and 160 participants, including many of our recent graduates.
  • Operations next week- The office will be open July 2nd and 3rd, but many employees have chosen to take vacation. Ingram will return on July 3rd and will be in the office and in the field the remainder of the week.
