After winning a Lowcountry Black History Month quiz bowl competition, a group of students from Goose Creek High School advanced to a state competition this month.
This year made the third in a row that a team from Goose Creek advanced to the state-level African American quiz bowl competition, which is organized by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
It’s also the second year in a row a Gator team came home victorious.
Sponsored by the Mu Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the team will now advance to a regional competition to be held on April 27 in Charleston.
“The competition was fierce,” said Carl K. Dicks of Omega Psi Phi in a correspondence to participating teams. ”Only one question separated the first and second place teams. My humble thanks to the great job being done at all of the schools, their advisors, the students and the sponsoring chapters.”
Advisors for Goose Creek’s team are Mrs. Jessica Olin and Mrs. Kathy Freeman.
Finishing in second place behind the Goose Creek team was Northwestern High School.
