Goose Creek principal Shameka Washington and interim athletic director Chris Buchholz are pleased to announce Jason Winstead as the new varsity head football coach.

Winstead was previously the defensive coordinator at South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, S.C.

During his seven years at South Pointe, the Stallions won five state championships, including four in a row from 2014 to 2017. The program's record since 2011 is 92-11. The 2017 South Pointe team finished the season ranked sixth in the nation by USA Today.

During his time at South Pointe, the teams have won six regional championships and made seven straight state semifinal appearances.

Overall, Coach Winstead has 21 years of coaching experience. He has also coached at D.W. Daniel High School, Laurens District 55 High School, and Rock Hill High School. At D.W. Daniel High School, Coach Winstead was an assistant coach on the 1998 state championship team. He was also an assistant coach on the 2001 Laurens District 55 High School girls' basketball state championship team. Overall, Coach Winstead has won seven state championships.

Winstead and his wife Anna have two children, Henry (12) and Emily (9).  We are truly excited about the direction of the football program under Coach Winstead.
