Berkeley County School District Superintendent Dr. Eddie Ingram is conducting "Community Conversations" to offer an opportunity for the public to share thoughts on the future of BCSD.
The sessions are an hour and a half long and will be informal in setting. In addition to listening to thoughts from those in attendance, Dr. Ingram will answer questions raised by attendees, give updates on the school district and ask for feedback on important issues.
There's a meeting scheduled for March 5 at Hanahan Middle School and there's another meeting scheduled for March 20 in Cross. Additional sessions in 2018 are planned for Goose Creek and Daniel Island.
"I think the first thing to do with the community is to become more involved in it, and I think that you do that in formal and informal ways," Dr. Ingram said. "I see this (Community Conversations) as an informal gathering by which I can get to know more people and they can get to know me. That's so important."
Dr. Ingram said he plans to ask members of the community what skills they believe children need in the 21st Century.
"We're educating our kids for their future, not our past," he said.
