Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 - Oct. 15) is set apart for the celebration of independence for the Central American countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Honduras. Mexico also celebrates its independence from Spain on September 16. Appreciation is shown for the many contributions of Latin Americans. Hispanic culture, people, history and language are highlighted with great festivity.

Hispanic Heritage Month was first established by President Lyndon B. Johnson for a week’s celebration in 1968. It is now a month-long merriment, enacted by law by President Ronald Reagan in 1988.

Spanish teacher Yvonne Adkins's students at Macedonia Middle have enjoyed getting to know Hispanic inventors, celebrities, athletes, authors, poets and more through their research and projects. The artwork is their expression and articulation of what they have learned from the Hispanic world.
