Berkeley County School District (BCSD) announced its three District Teacher of the Year semi-finalists at its annual Teacher Forum Induction on Friday, April 16 at Freedom Church in Moncks Corner. The finalists, Goose Creek High’s Taryn Davis, Nexton Elementary’s Brittne Guerry and Macedonia Middle’s Caitlin Kennedy were recognized along with the other school-level teachers of the year at the celebration.
Brittne Guerry–Nexton Elementary
Brittne Guerry realized the best way to combine her passion of ministry and philanthropy was to return to teach. She notes that the constant in so many children’s lives are teachers.
She is a physical education teacher at Nexton Elementary, where she has taught for two years – though she has taught a total of 10 years.
Taryn Davis–Goose Creek High
Taryn Davis strives to make her classroom warm and inviting to students – and tries to show her students how much she cares for them, from asking how their day is going to attending her students’ sporting events and on-stage performances.
She teaches 10th-grade World History (Honors and AP) at Goose Creek High. She has served four years in her current position but has been teaching a total of eight years.
Caitlin Kennedy–Macedonia Middle
Caitlin Kennedy uses each day to work on increasing student engagement and empowering ownership.
She is a resource teacher, focusing on math and E/LA, at Macedonia Middle, where she has taught for four years and has served as the lead over special education since 2017.
