At Tuesday night's board meeting, Berkeley County School District board members announced two new principals for the district.

The board named Theodore Prioleau as the new principal of J. K. Gourdin Elementary, where he has served as interim principal since last year.

Prioleau has held different administrative roles across the district since coming to BCSD in 1987.

“Dr. Prioleau showed great leadership while serving as the interim principal at JKE for the 2020-2021 school year,” said BCSD Superintendent Deon Jackson. “We anticipate that he will continue his work to build meaningful relationships in the school community while always looking for areas to support staff members and improve the learning experience for students.”

Prioleau started off as a speech pathologist at H.E. Bonner Elementary before heading to Berkeley Middle as an administrative assistant in 1998. In 2011, he was named assistant principal at the school.

Prioleau then served as assistant principal at Devon Forest Elementary in 2008 before filling another assistant principal position at Cane Bay Elementary in 2009, where he stayed for three years; he temporarily served as acting principal in 2010. He then moved on to Goose Creek Elementary, where he was an assistant principal from 2012 to 2020.

In addition to a Master's degree in speech pathology, Prioleau has a Master's in school adminstration as well as a doctorate in educational leadership.
