Coffee and Conversations

Published Thursday, February 16, 2023

Berkeley County School District is committed to building community partnerships that make a positive difference in the lives of students and their families.

As part of that commitment, members of the public are invited to participate in an upcoming series called “Coffee and Conversations” where they can meet with BCSD Superintendent Dr. Anthony Dixon in different area coffee houses and  share their ideas about what they would like to see happening in the school district – and, of course, buy a cup of coffee.

Dr. Dixon’s goals include making himself accessible and visible to community members, and creating intentional opportunities to have these conversations to help the district plan for the 2023-2024 school year.

“It tears down this wall that it seems like you can’t get to the Superintendent,” Dr. Dixon said. “It’s a busy role and there’s a lot going on in public education, but it’s an opportunity to have a casual conversation and break down some barriers and build bridges where they’re needed.”

“Coffee and Conversations” is not a formal sit-down meeting; community members are simply invited to chat with Dr. Dixon while they are grabbing a cup of coffee at the following locations:

  • Wednesday, Feb. 22, 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Essentials Coffee, located at 117A Foxbank Plantation Boulevard in Moncks Corner

  • Friday, Feb. 24, 7:30 to 8: 30 a.m. at Rustic Muffin, located at 202 N. Live Oak Drive in Moncks Corner

  • Tuesday, Feb. 28, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Brew Coffee, located at 7000 Bowens Pier Drive, Suite 1 in Hanahan

  • Thursday, March 9, 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Cane Bay Starbucks, located at 1730 State Road in Summerville

  • Friday, March 10, 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Bald Monkey Beanery, located at 1320 Red Bank Road in Goose Creek

Any and all stakeholders in the school district are welcome to attend the upcoming meet-ups; parents, residents, local business owners and organizations – anyone with a vested interest in public education and the school district who wants to share their ideas with Dr. Dixon.

BCSD values its community partnerships and input from stakeholders, and looks forward to having constructive conversations that will support its students and employees.

“That’s what traditional community engagement is about,” Dr. Dixon said. “It’s about meeting our constituents and meeting our partners and engaging with them to improve the work that we do every day.”
