Cross Elementary Oratorical Competition scheduled for February 27

“If I could share MY DREAM with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., what would it be?”
On Thursday, February 27, eight students representing grades 4-6 at Cross Elementary will eloquently answer that question. Their presentations will be examined, and three of those students will receive top honors.
The yearly Cross Elementary Oratorical Competition is among the largest events at the school each year and continues to grow in popularity. The goal is to inspire a passion for public speaking in the young students at the school, but the reward has been an event that packs Cross Elementary with families and community members eager to witness budding young student leaders in action.
“The atmosphere is friendly, exciting and inspiring,” said Cross Elementary Title I Facilitator LaShonda Pelzer.
In the weeks leading up to the competition, participants will spend hours working with oratorical coaches at the school and parents/guardians at home. They will be required to research, write and present an original speech.
Some students will likely bring props on the day of the competition, others may perform as a part of their presentation.
The Cross Elementary Oratorical Competition will begin at 6 p.m. on February 27. Members of the community are invited to attend.
