  • Macedonia / H.E. Bonner Innovation Expo

    Robots, vertical gardens and people wearing virtual reality headsets – an innovation expo was held at Macedonia Middle on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020 and activities, demonstrations and completed projects lined hallways, occupied classrooms and filled the school’s cafeteria.

  • Berkeley Elementary playground ribbon-cutting

    Nasty weather did little to rain on the fun at Berkeley Elementary this week. The school held an official ribbon-cutting for it's playground, which now has adaptive equipment that can be used by students with special needs. Twenty-five BCSD schools received playground upgrades this year.

    J.K. Gourdin Elementary held a Black History Month performance Wednesday that told a story of persistence and perseverance. There were poems, readings, music and a skit performed. The work put into the event by the students was AMAZING!

  • Westview Elementary creates living memorial after 2 weeks of learning about the Holocaust

    The two-week series of events and lessons at Westview Elementary was made possible by collaboration with the Charleston Jewish Federation’s REMEMBER Program for Holocaust Education and Genocide Awareness. The program is designed to educate and build community among all races, faiths and ethnicities in the Charleston area and inspire citizens to take a stand against all forms of hate, bias and anti-Semitism. As of 2019, the program has worked with approximately 30 schools in the Lowcountry and reached more than 5,000 students to teach the Holocaust in meaningful and innovative ways.

    Since 2011, faculty and staff members at Timberland High have gathered, collected and delivered turkeys and sides to as many families in need as possible. This year, they served 120 families.

  • 2019 Board Room Art Show

    On Tuesday, November 12 BCSD hosted its annual Board Room Art Show. In total, there were 42 students with artwork selected to hang in the central office outside of the board room for the next year. This album contains photos of some of those students with their work and a few other pieces on display.

  • Philip Simmons High's Canstruction

    Canstruction is a nationwide program that aims to raise awareness about hunger. Teams work together to build exhibits out of cans of food. The cans are later donated for distribution to those in need.

    Marrington Elementary and Marrington Middle School of the Arts are both located on Naval Weapons Station Joint Base Charleston. As you can imagine, Veterans Day is a big deal on each campus. At the elementary school, there was a parade. The middle school hosted several special performances planned by 7th-grade students.
