Bowen's Corner Elementary opened its doors to more than 700 students in August 2018. The school is located in Hanahan, and is led by its principal, Dr. Kimberly Murray.

Bowen’s Corner Elementary School is helping all students develop the world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of a Graduate by building a faculty who strive to develop educational opportunities for our students that improve and strengthen literacy, differentiate to meet the individual needs of each student, increase analytical and problem-solving ability, and improve communication skills.

Professional Learning Communities enable our teachers to raise the level of rigor, build common assessments, disaggregate data, and plan instruction based on our state standards and individual student needs. We believe that to improve student learning we must engage in continuous and targeted professional development as we continue to make student achievement our top priority. All teachers were trained through Clemson University on STEAM principles to support our school motto, “Learning by Doing.” Teachers utilize data to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses. Classroom curriculum enriched with technology by incorporating SMART boards, Google Chrome Books, Google Expedition kits, and iPads engages our students through relevance and encourages active learners. BCE created a MakerSpace Lab to provide hands-on, creative ways to help students design, experiment, build, and invent as they deeply engage in science and engineering. Bowen’s Corner Elementary offers opportunities to join our chorus, newspaper club, and yearbook club to ensure additional exposure to world-class skills and knowledge.

Life and Career characteristics such as integrity, perseverance, and interpersonal skills enhanced through the implementation of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program that creates a school-wide system of support focusing on teaching positive student behaviors and ultimately increasing student achievement. Also, our character education program nurtures and promotes the intellectual, emotional, and ethical development of our students. We believe that our character education program and our social-emotional curriculum, we are providing our students with the knowledge values and skills necessary for success in life. Students receive additional time and support during the school day with small-group targeted instruction and assistance-based targeted computer programs.

Through our shared purpose, vision, commitment, and goals, the Bowen’s Corner staff, parents, and community will continue to work diligently to ensure every student is the epitome of a future South Carolina Graduate.
