Mr. Deon Jackson, Superintendent

Mr. Deon Jackson was selected as Berkeley County School District’s Superintendent on May 19, 2021 and officially assumed the role on July 1, 2021. Prior to being named Superintendent of Berkeley County School District, Mr. Jackson served as the Chief Administrative Officer for Pupil Services. Before his role as the Chief Administrative Officer for Pupil Services, he served as the Senior Associate Superintendent of Operations and Administration, where he was responsible for Safety & Security, Transportation, Counseling Services, Health Services, Programs for Students At-Risk, Athletics, Physical Education, ROTC, Military Relations and Drivers Education. While in that role he was also second in command on the administrative level of BCSD and represented the Superintendent when needed. Mr. Jackson also spent time as the Senior Associate Superintendent of Operations and Administration, where he was responsible for Capital Projects and Maintenance in addition to several of the departments mentioned above. During the 2017 Superintendent search, Mr. Jackson served as the Interim Superintendent and Chief Administrative Officer. Before his career brought him to the BCSD central office, Mr. Jackson served in the roles of principal at Cane Bay Middle and St. Stephen Middle and assistant principal at Timberland High. In 2014, while at Cane Bay Middle, he was named BCSD Middle School Principal of the Year. In 2010, while at Timberland High, he was named BCSD High School Assistant Principal of the Year. Prior to his becoming a school administrator, Mr. Jackson worked as a teacher in Berkeley County for four years and in Lancaster County for two years. Mr. Jackson earned his M.Ed and Ed.S from The Citadel and is currently pursuing a Ph.D from the University of South Carolina.

Dr. Karen Whitley, Chief Human Resources Officer

Dr. Karen Whitley obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the College of Charleston, her Master's Degree in Reading from the Citadel, and her Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She has over 40 years of experience in education in Berkeley County School District, beginning her career as a first grade teacher at Berkeley Elementary in Moncks Corner. Dr. Whitley went on to serve as a reading recovery teacher, and as a compensatory reading and math teacher before taking a facilitator position  She has extensive experience as both a school and district administrator. She has served in administrative roles both at the middle and the elementary level including two principalships. Dr. Whitley has served in various roles at the district level including Elementary School Supervisor, Executive Director of School Improvement, Chief Administrative Officer and Associate Superintendent for Student Services and Programs.

Diane Driggers, Chief Technology and Infrastructure Officer

The Berkeley County School District's Office of Technology (OOT) administers a large and diverse network computing environment.
 
Technology is responsible for over 16,000 computers, over 31,000 mobile devices, approximately 300 network file servers and approximately 2,100 smart classrooms spread out over 45 school campuses & multiple District office sites.

Ashley Smith, Chief Finance Officer

The Office of Finance is responsible for Goal 5 which is Fiscal Responsibility.  It reads, "We will be proactive in obtaining and utilizing resources to provide a world-class education for all students." We also see our role as supporting and collaborating with all the departments to provide a quality education for our children.  We have an experienced staff whose vision is centered on the 30,000 children that we serve every day.
