Dr. Anthony Dixon

Superintendent

Dr. Anthony Dixon was named Superintendent of Berkeley County School District on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.

He returned to BCSD following his service as Chief of Schools in Charleston County School District. Previously, Dr. Dixon served Berkeley County School District as the Chief Academics and Innovation Officer and as the Chief Administrative Officer – School Services (Secondary Schools). Prior to those roles, he served as the Executive Director of Academics and Innovation as well as principal of Sanders-Clyde and Memminger School of Global Studies.  He served as principal for Philip Simmons High School, Philip Simmons Middle School and Cainhoy Elementary School. He also previously served as an Assistant Principal at Daniel Island School and Boulder Bluff Elementary School, and as a Special Education Teacher at St. Stephen and Memminger Elementary Schools. 

Dixon earned his Ed.D. and Ed.S. degrees from South Carolina State University, Master of Arts in Teaching in Special Education: Learning and  Emotional Disabilities from the University of Charleston and a B.S. from College of Charleston.

Dr. Karen Whitley

Deputy Superintendent

Dr. Karen Whitley obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the College of Charleston, her Master's Degree in Reading from the Citadel, and her Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She has over 40 years of experience in education in Berkeley County School District, beginning her career as a first grade teacher at Berkeley Elementary in Moncks Corner. Dr. Whitley went on to serve as a reading recovery teacher, and as a compensatory reading and math teacher before taking a facilitator position.  She has extensive experience as both a school and district administrator. She has served in administrative roles both at the middle and the elementary level, including two principalships. Dr. Whitley has served in various roles at the district level, including Elementary School Supervisor, Executive Director of School Improvement, Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Human Resouces Officer and Associate Superintendent for Student Services and Programs. She was named Deputy Superintendent for BCSD in 2022.

Diane Driggers

Chief Technology and Infrastructure Officer
 
The Berkeley County School District's Office of Technology (OOT) administers a large and diverse network computing environment.
 
Technology is responsible for over 15,000 computers, 58,000 mobile devices, approximately 170 network file servers and approximately 3,200 smart classrooms spread out over 47 school campuses & multiple District office sites.
