Dr. Allison Brown began her educational career in 1996, serving as a 5th and 6th grade teacher in Harlingen, Texas. She then moved into the school counseling arena, working at both the elementary and high school levels. After transferring to SC in 2003, she joined the Stratford HS counseling team, serving students and staff there for 13 years. Since 2016, she has held the position of Director of School Counseling at Berkeley Alternative School. Dr. Brown earned her BA in Psychology from the University of NC at Wilmington in 1990, an MEd in Counseling Psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Boston in 1995, and a EdD in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in 2007.
Prior to becoming an educator, Dr. Brown served her country as a Military Police officer in the US Army. In addition, she held positions with American Airlines and the Wilmington (NC) Police Department. She and her husband, Will, who is also a veteran, founded the non-profit organization Reiki For Vets (RFV) in 2016, which offers free Reiki treatments to disabled veterans through the Charleston VAMC. Over the past 4 years, RFV has expanded to serve veterans in CA, GA, and ME.
Dr. Brown enjoys spending time with Will and her two children, Evan and Natalie (who both graduated from Stratford HS), as well as her two fainting goats and three cats. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, boating, and serving others through Reiki and other forms of energy work. An avid writer, Dr. Brown’s first book is scheduled for release in early 2021 by Cactus Moon Publishing.
