• Welcome to Ms. Silver's English Class! :)

For Fall 2016, I am teaching Children's Literature and English III.

For Children's Literature, students explore topics related to early reading skills, picture books, fantasy/fairy tales, and work their way through topics in Young Adult literature. Students read, write, and create a lot!! They engage in daily self-selected reading, read and analyze children's literature, create visual projects related to each topic, and write reflections regarding what they have read.

For English III, students explore topics in American literature. Students write daily journals connecting American literature topics to modern day ideas and problems, they engage in daily vocabulary and grammar practices, and they read a variety of literature, including poems, plays, short stories, and novels. As a major part of the course, students also partake in a research paper asking them to choose a controversial topic, research, and thoroughly discuss their chosen topic. While this is a rigorous course, covering a large amount of literature and engaging students in literary analysis, it is important for students to connect the texts to topics, problems, ideas, and cultures that they experience in modern-day American society.
