Mr. Tom Gallus, Principal

I am very excited to build upon the Hawk traditions and work with an amazing staff to take Hanahan to the next level. Gallus joined BCSD as a physical education teacher and coach at Hanahan High School in 2003, investing the past 15 years in public education. After serving 11 years as a teacher and coach, he was selected as an assistant principal at Berkeley High in 2014. While at Berkeley, Gallus oversaw the International Baccalaureate program and served as the administrator for the Scholars Academy and Academic Booster Club. He also has served as Berkeley’s safety administrator and worked to increase Trident United Way donations by 127% in 2014 and 2015.
Mrs. Allison Thornley, Assistant PrincipalMrs. Thornley is a graduate of Francis Marion University where she played volleyball and earned an Bachelor of Science in Sociology and received her Secondary Social Studies endorsement to teach high school. She began her teaching career in 1999 at Stratford High School. She pursued her Administrative degree at The Citadel and became an assistant principal at Stratford High School in 2005. She has been at Hanahan High School since 2012 as the Assistant Principal in charge of Instruction. She is married and has two beautiful girls.
Mrs. Kim Joseph, Athletics Assistant Principal
Mrs. Joseph is a graduate of University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Health and Physical Education with a Minor in Psychology. She began her teaching career in 2005 at Sedgfield Middle School as a Health teacher. She pursued her Administrative degree at The Citadel. She has been at Hanahan High School since 2009 as the Physical Education teacher and cheerleading coach. 2018 Mrs. Joseph became the Assistant Principal of Athletics at Hanahan High School. She is married and has 3 beautiful children.
Dr. Chelsey A. Bradley, Academy Coach/Testing Coordinator
Academy Coach/Testing Coordinator, Dr. Bradley began her career, as the head teacher at a private gifted and talented program before moving to Cane Bay Middle School to teach social studies and ELA. She opened Philip Simmons Middle School as the Instructional Coach for two years before moving to Philip Simmons High School as the Academy Coach and Testing Coordinator. She has served as a teacher trainer in gifted and talented education and application of national standards in the area of English. She went to the College of Charleston (B.S.; M.Ed.) and received her Doctorate (Ed.D.) in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Carolina. As part of her doctorate work, she was a member of the Oxford Education Society and the New College Middle Common Room at the University of Oxford where she researched communities of practice, social learning theory, and constructivism. She was a Visiting Fellow in Education at the University of Buckingham in England and currently teaches GT endorsement courses through Converse College. She is a product of Hanahan schools and is enthusiastic about coming back to serve the community where she began her own academic journey!
