•  Meet our principal -   Melissa LaBerge
On behalf of the entire Cane Bay Elementary School family I would like to welcome you to our website! I hope the information available here can help you learn all you ever needed or wanted to know about the educational programs and activities we have in place at CBE!

I have been honored to be a member of the Cane Bay family for five years - two years as the Assistant Principal and three years as the Principal. I am here for every student, every parent, and every family as a partner in education. I believe that all students are capable of moving mountains and know that we have the best faculty and staff to ensure each student reaches his or her greatest potential! Intervention and enrichment are a very important part of the curriculum here at CBE, which allows teachers to meet all students’ needs. If you ever have a question about your child’s strengths, areas of concern, and/or progress being made in school we ask that you contact your child’s teacher(s) so that we can build a relationship that in the end will better enhance your child’s educational experience.

We are always striving to involve parents and community members in the school so please contact us if you are interested in volunteering or participating in some manner. Participation can take many forms so don’t hesitate to call even if you are not a parent that can come into the school because of scheduling conflicts. Parents and community members can help through participating in PTA or our School Improvement Council, volunteering to read with students, or helping recognize students and classes on school Spirit Days. If you are interested in getting involved we can come up with a way!

Meet our assistant principal -   Marissa Echenique
Parents, Staff, Students, and Community Members,

I would like to extend a warm welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! I am excited to begin my third year at Cane Bay Elementary as Assistant Principal. I am thankful for the opportunity to work with the incredibly talented and dedicated faculty and staff.

Cane Bay Elementary has fostered an atmosphere of success and accomplishment. I believe this is a direct result of the partnership between staff and parents who are committed to providing a diversity of learning experiences. Together, we can continue to focus on high student achievement, innovation, and the development of well-rounded students. We can truly achieve the BCSD Vision of  empowering all students.

I attended schools in Berkeley County. Upon graduating from the College of Charleston, I returned to Berkeley County School District as a teacher. After several years as a teacher, I earned my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from The Citadel Graduate College and moved to a position as an instructional coach. I am excited to bring my past fourteen years of experience to partner with each of you as we continue to serve the students of Cane Bay Elementary.

I believe teamwork and open communication are very important and know that together we will continue to ensure a positive and productive learning environment for our students. I am excited to help support the students, parents, teachers, and community of Cane Bay Elementary, and I look forward to meeting and working with each of you!

I am confident that we can strengthen the tradition of excellence that Cane Bay Elementary has already established. Please feel free to stop by the school to introduce yourself or share your concerns or questions. You may contact me by e-mail at echeniqu@bcsdschools.net or by phone 843-899-5100.
