The Arts Programs at Goose Creek Elementary
Students at Goose Creek Elementary enjoy weekly instruction in both the visual and performing arts. Each year in March, several students are selected to perform in the Berkeley All-County Chorus. Each autumn, many students have their art displayed at the Coastal Carolina Fair. In April, Goose Creek Elementary student artwork is featured in the public art show at Northwoods Mall. In addition, each year one piece of art is selected to represent our school in the Berkeley County School District Art Show, a public event where the student artist receives formal recognition from school board members.
In the spring of 2018, GCE 1st Grader, Jackson Stevens had his artwork chosen by art teacher Mrs. Traegar to represent our school in the Home Telecom Directory Art Challenge.
We are proud to announce that Jackson tied for FIRST PLACE in the elementary division of the artwork contest and placed SECOND place OVERALL in the contest (that means combined with middle and high school level artwork)!
Jackson’s artwork was featured in the recent issue of the Home Telecom Directory published in March 2018, so look for his “Yellow Jessamine”! Jackson’s award also came with $1000 for GCE to spend on classroom art supplies, courtesy of Home Telecom!
Jackson and his artwork were honored at the BCSD board meeting on April 24, 2018. In addition to meeting the school board members, Jackson received a plaque in honor of this special accomplishment.
Congratulations, Jackson! & Thank you, Home Telecom!
In a show held on our campus in March 2018, our students displayed their fantastic talent for the visual arts. As you can see from the photos below, we have a diverse and colorful array of pieces in our art portfolio!
GCE Performing Arts
In December of 2017, GCE Singing Otters Chorus performed a winter holiday show. In the Spring the performance was entitled "Music Matters" and they sang about all the joys and benefits of filling your lives with music. In addition to these concerts, five talented GCE students were selected to attend Berkeley County All County Chorus which took place in March.
