Katie Taie, Principal
Hello, my name is Katie Taie and I am excited for my first year as principal at Whitesville Elementary School. I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degree from Limestone College with Specialization in Creative Arts and Learning from Lesley University. Then I received a Masters of Education Degree in Educational Leadership from The Citadel. I have been working in Berkeley County School District for a total of 23 years. I spent 18 years as an art teacher, 1 year as BCSD Visual Arts Coordinator, and 4 years as an assistant principal. I have a variety of experiences including levels ranging from district, elementary, and middle and five different schools.
My husband, Parker, and I share a passion for education. He teaches Social Studies at Goose Creek High School. Together we have a daughter, Sydney, and are proud to say that she is a product of Berkeley County School District. She is currently a thriving sophomore at Winthrop University.
What a blessing it is for me to love my work, I’m not perfect but I do work hard to provide an environment where every child feels worthy of respect. Children are more apt to take risks at learning when they feel confident that they will be treated with dignity. I believe the main aspects of my role are to provide a safe environment for students to learn and for people to work, to provide instructional leadership that sets high expectations for teaching and learning and to maintain open communication with students, parents and teachers.
Parents, you can count on me to listen to your concerns. I believe that the student should always win in our conversations, actions and plans. We will work together to help them through their childhood stages so that they develop a strong academic foundation, a sense of right and wrong and effective work habits for success. The BCSD mission is to challenge and empower ours students to be successful in a highly competitive world; we take pride in working toward this goal for all of our students.
I am excited about being a part of the Whitesville family and look forward to a wonderful 2015-2016 school year. Please feel free to contact me any time by e-mailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 843-899-8880.
Rusty Boston, Assistant Principal
My name is Rusty Boston and I am starting my fourth year as assistant principal at Whitesville Elementary. I have been with Berkeley County School District for 17 years. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the College of Charleston. I spent 13 years working in manufacturing with Milliken and also in food service with Aramark. Deciding on a career change, I earned a Master of Arts in Teaching followed by a Certification in Administration all from the College of Charleston and The Citadel. I spent six years teaching 5th grade at Hanahan Elementary prior to administration. It was thrilling to have found my place in education where I get to work with children every day and be a part of their ever growing experiences and challenges. I truly love my work.
I have spent my entire life growing up in the Lowcountry. My wife, Jackie has spent 28 years teaching at Hanahan Elementary. We have three children. Bradley is married now and has a new baby boy named Sullivan, who is the center of everyone’s life at the moment. Emily will begin her sophomore year at Hanahan High School and Katherine will be attending 8th grade at Hanahan Middle School. Outside of school, you will find me spending time with my two daughters, playing tennis or fly fishing on a secluded mountain stream.
I will always lead students towards a successful path in life; guiding, supporting and nurturing them along the way. I try to develop a rapport with all students and parents so they feel comfortable coming to talk with me about any issues whether about celebrations or concerns. I will work hard to create a culture where students look forward to coming to Whitesville Elementary every day.
I look forward to a great year. Please let me know what I can do for you. Don’t hesitate to contact me at any time by emailing me at email@example.com or by phone at 843-899-8880.
Brenda Howell, Assistant Principal
Hello, my name is Brenda Howell and I am excited to be returning to Whitesville Elementary School. I began my journey into education by earning a Bachelor of Science Degree from The College of Charleston and a Masters of Education Degree in Educational Leadership from The Citadel. This year I started my twenty-first year in education. The first twelve years I spent as an elementary teacher in both Charleston County and Berkeley County. This is my ninth year in administration.
I was born and raised in Charleston. My husband, Jeremy is a United Methodist Minister, and my three children, Craig, Chelsea, and Katie Sineath all attended and graduated from Berkeley County Schools and have gone on to undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral programs. Craig graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor’s degree, then from Emory University with a Master’s degree and is currently a medical student at Emory University. Chelsea also graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor’s degree and received a Doctoral degree from Sherman Chiropractic College. Chelsea currently owns her own chiropractic clinic in Greenville, SC. My youngest daughter, Katie, followed in my footsteps! She graduated from The College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Science Degree and is currently teaching fifth grade at Cane Bay Middle School.
While education is a second career for me, it is my vocation and I am really enjoying it! I went into education because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children and I work every day to help children want to learn and to feel better about themselves. Children need to know that adults care, are willing to listen, and can be trusted. Once this foundation is built, the child is able to soar! I also want to build this relationship with the families at Whitesville. My door is always open and I am always willing to listen and to help in any way that I can. Please feel free to call me at 843-899-8880 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
