Military Family Life Counselors

  • confident and smiling student The Department of Defense (DOD) authorized the funding for several full-time Military Family Life Counselors (MFLCs) to serve elementary schools, middle schools and one middle/high school in the tricounty area.

    In Berkeley County School District, there are MFLCs at Marrington Elementary School, Marrington Middle School of the Arts and Cane Bay Elementary School.

    School MFLCs offer short-term non-medical counseling services to military connected children, parents, faculty, and staff. The MFLC counselors are at the schools to help and are available to talk to military students, facilitate group activities, outreach to parents and to process interactions and concerns, such as:

    • Communication
    • Self-esteem/self-confidence
    • Resolving conflicts
    • Behavioral management techniques
    • Bullying
    • Helping children deal with angry feelings
    • Sibling/parental relationships
    • Deployment and reintegration issues

    The MFLC program utilizes professional, licensed and credentialed counselors.
