    Are Chromebooks safe?
    Answer: Yes, Chromebooks are considered safe. Chromebooks have multiple layers of protection and built-in security features. Students are required to complete curriculum to learn about being responsible digital citizens. The Common Sense Media Curriculum empowers students to think critically and make informed choices about how they live and treat others in today’s digital media world, covers topics from internet safety and security to privacy, with a focus on cyberbullying and responsible digital behavior.
     
    Chromebooks will have the same Internet filters when used outside of school that protect the students from harmful and inappropriate content during the school day. It is important to know that no filter is foolproof and ask for your partnership to help students safely navigate technology resources.     

     

    Student data privacy is a priority. BCSD complies with local, state, and federal student data privacy regulations.

     

      

    Will administrators or staff have remote access to the Chromebook web camera or microphone?

    Answer: No, we do not have any way to access the Chromebook webcam or microphones remotely on or off the network.


     
    Will students have access to everything on the internet?
    Answer: No, Berkeley County School District has active filters in place to block websites that are not conducive to learning. The filters will remain active when students take their Chromebook home. As with any activity in the classroom, teachers will monitor students while they are using a Chromebook by applying their classroom management plan. It is important to know that no filter is foolproof and ask for your partnership to help students safely navigate technology resources.
