  •  Welcome to PSHS

  • November 12, 2018

    Dear Parents and Guardians:

The PreACT will be administered to all of our 10th grade (2nd year in high school) students on November 29, 2018. This testing is being funded by the State, so there is no cost to you.

PreACT simulates the ACT testing experience within a shorter test window on all four ACT test subjects: English, math, reading, and science. Results predict future success on the ACT test, and provide both current achievement and projected future ACT test scores on the familiar 1-36 ACT score scale.

Some additional key benefits of PreACT include:

    • Students may opt to share their information with colleges and scholarship agencies
    • ACT Interest Inventory results provide students with a personalized view of interests with college and career alignment
    • Valuable results provide actionable insights to help educators, parents, and students make important decisions for the future

Additional information on the PreACT can be found by visiting

    http://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/preact.html.

If you should have any further questions, please feel free to contact your student’s guidance counselor.

  • 11th Grade Students - Take the ACT OR SAT for FREE!!!

    Dear Parents and Guardians:

All eleventh grade Berkeley County students in their third year of high school have the opportunity to take the ACT® OR the SAT® during the school day. The testing is being funded by the State, so there is no cost to you.

Please spend time reviewing your student’s academic history and previous PreACT or PSAT scores, along with their Individual Graduation Plan, to determine which test would best suit your student’s need.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your student’s school counselor.  To assist in making this decision, your student may take a free practice test online.

Additional information on each test can be found by visiting the following websites:

    ACT® - http://www.act.org/content/act/en/students-and-parents.html

    SAT® - https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat

We encourage you to explore both options and make a formal selection either on the form that went home with your student or by using the Google form link below.

All forms are due on or before November 30, 2018.

  • Get Involved!

  • Dear Parent/Guardian:

The flu shot is the best way to prevent the flu from spreading in our school.  It is important that all children get vaccinated every year. Studies show that school children who receive flu shots have fewer illnesses, fewer absences from school, and lower rates of illness in their families during flu season.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) is working with your school district to provide flu shots at your child’s school this fall.

There will be no cost to you or your child for the flu shot at school. If applicable, payment from Medicaid will be made to DHEC on your behalf.

If you would like your child to get a flu shot at school:

    1. Go to http://www.scdhec.gov/slvcconsent and enter 10801056 as your validation code.
    2. Complete the online consent and submit to DHEC.

If your child is under the age of 9, he or she may need to get a second flu shot for the best protection. You will be notified if your child will need a second flu shot.

If your child does not receive the flu shot at school, please contact your child’s healthcare provider or health department to get the flu shot.

    Sincerely,

    Teresa A. Foo, MD, MPH
