Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! We have such an exciting time ahead of us and we cannot wait for the school year to begin.

This year, we will be reading the book Old Turtle and the Broken Truth by Douglas Wood. In light of the very sad events that have taken place over the summer in our country and in other countries, I feel this book will remind us about love, acceptance, and the nature of truth. “Remember this also, Little One,” she said. “The broken truth, and life itself, will be mended only when one person meets another – someone from a different place or with a different face or different ways -and sees and hears…herself. Only then will the people know that every person, every being, is important, and that the world was made for each of us.”

Morning Procedures:

Students may be dropped off as early as 6:30 a.m. for morning care. The fee is $2.00 a day or $10.00 a week. The morning care program is in the cafeteria on the middle school side.

Breakfast is served from 6:55-7:30. Middle school students enter the cafeteria at 7:30 for their breakfast.

All students may enter the cafeteria at 6:55 a.m. We have two tables reserved with their homeroom class name and allow the students to socialize before the day begins in the safety of our school building with teacher supervision. The outside front lawn is not under the supervision of an adult. Please help us keep your children safe and ask them to enter the building after they have been dropped off.

Afternoon Procedures:

Afternoon announcements begin right after the bell rings. We dismiss in the following order: walkers, Whale Watch Aftercare, car riders, and bus riders. Please help us follow these procedures to ensure safety of all children. WVE is asking that parents of car rider students NOT encourage your children to come out with the walkers. Our parking lot is very busy and quite dangerous. We do not want cars to begin moving until our walker students are safely off campus. Please help us keep all of our students safe during dismissal and remind your children to come out with their designated group.

We have so many exciting things already planned this year and cannot wait for the school year to begin! We will begin the school year reviewing expectations and teaching every child in the building our anti-bullying program: “Stop, Walk, and Talk!” Bullies are not welcome at Westview. We are also teaming up with a variety of businesses and stakeholders to encourage our students to READ, READ, READ!
